An indoor recirculating build and an outdoor pond build produce very different totals from the same inputs. Indoors you pay for a shell, heat and life support and get year-round control; a pond trades that for excavation, liner and a season that the weather sets. Decide which one you are costing before you read the number, and set the shell and site lines to match.
Power is the line that keeps a crop alive. Aeration and circulation run around the clock, and a few hours without them can end a tank. That is why the electrical service, the standby generator, the transfer switch and the alarm that calls your phone sit in the build cost rather than in a wish list. Size the generator for the whole life-support load, not for a single pump.
The first cycle is the expensive one. You pay for post-larvae, feed, heat and labour for months before there is a harvest to sell, and the yield of a first crop is usually below what the same system does once you have learned the water. Budget the reserve against a full cycle plus a restock, not against a single month.
Ongoing costs sit outside this total. Power and heat, feed, labour, water treatment, insurance, packaging and the cost of getting product to a buyer are recurring rather than part of the one-time build this page sums.
