Where that shortening reaches the nerves at the base of the spine, the result is the cluster breeders call Manx syndrome: spinal defects, and bowel or bladder problems that need managing rather than curing. That is why this page has a contingency line at all, and why the line is built as a workup plus a yearly care figure. The signs of the syndrome take time to declare themselves, which is why careful Manx breeders keep kittens for months rather than releasing them at the usual eight weeks. Waiting is not a delay tactic and a longer hold is a reason to trust a breeder rather than to look elsewhere. No. Taillessness comes in degrees, from a cat with no tail at all through to a stub or a near-full tail, and littermates can differ. Breeders price the fully tailless look higher because it is what buyers ask for, so this is one of the places where the asking price moves for a reason that has nothing to do with the cat's health.
